Galway with Kids: Our Perfect 48-Hour Itinerary
By Niamh Doyle · December 2025 · 5 min read
Galway is one of Ireland's most walkable cities — and surprisingly family-friendly if you know where to go. We brought our two kids (ages 6 and 9) for a weekend and didn't hear "I'm bored" once. Here's exactly what we did.
Day 1: City Centre
Morning: Stroll Eyre Square and the Saturday market (open year-round). Pick up pastries and hot chocolate.
Lunch: The King's Head — kids' menu and Saturday afternoon trad session.
Afternoon: Galway City Museum (free entry) and walk along the Claddagh to the Spanish Arch.
Dinner: Neachtain's beer garden if weather allows.
Day 2: Salthill & Sea
Morning: Walk or cycle the Salthill Promenade — 2 km of flat path with ice cream stops.
Lunch: Morin's by the sea (short drive to Kilcolgan) or picnic on the prom.
Afternoon: Atlantaquaria in Salthill — Ireland's largest native-species aquarium.
Evening: Final pub dinner at The Docks with harbour views.
